Learning and Teaching in the Primary School

At Â鶹´«Ã½AV Primary School, we are proud to be an authorised IB World School delivering the globally recognised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), while seamlessly integrating the robust Australian Curriculum. This powerful combination means your child benefits from an educational experience that is both deeply rooted in Australian standards and enriched by an international perspective. Our teaching and learning approach  both honours and transcends traditional subject boundaries, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning through inquiry-based units that connect directly to real-world issues.

This integrated framework empowers our students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. While rigorously covering all mandated content and skills of the Australian Curriculum – from literacy and numeracy to science, humanities, and the arts – we employ a balanced pedagogical approach. This means that alongside inquiry-based learning, our expert educators strategically utilise explicit teaching strategies to directly instruct foundational knowledge and essential skills. This enables us to effectively guide students to ask questions, research, reflect, and take action, ensuring that every child is an agent of their own learning journey, prepared for both local and global challenges.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is implemented from Lower Kinder to Year 6, with a modified age appropriate program delivered to our Little Learners.

The IB Learner Profile is central to our educational approach and defines the attributes of internationally-minded individuals, fostering a holistic development that goes beyond academic achievement. The ten qualities below guide our students to become compassionate, lifelong learners ready to make a positive difference in the world, beautifully aligning with core Jewish principles such as Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), the pursuit of wisdom and truth (Bina), and the deep value placed on questioning, critical thought, and ethical responsibility in our actions.
